The Ethiopian Society of Sociologists, Social Workers and Anthropologists (ESSSWA) have been implementing a project entitled: “Strengthening Social Services System in Ethiopia (SSSSE)” with financial and technical support from the United States Agency for International Development (USAID). The overall objective of the project is to improve social services provided to HIV and AIDS infected and affected Orphan and Vulnerable Children (OVC) and their families in Ethiopia by strengthening social service system and social service workforce and capacity building in four Regional Sates (Tigray, Amhara, Oromia and SNNP) and Addis Ababa and Dire Dawa City Administrations. ESSSWA with FHI 360 and 22 Implementing Partners intends to implement the Sinovuyo Teens Program for parents and adolescents curriculum across three regions (Amhara, Oromia, and SNNP) and Addis Ababa city administration. ESSSWA is currently looking for competent and qualified candidates to fill the position stated below. POSITION DESCRIPTION: ESSSWA is collaborating with FHI360 to implement Sinovuyo Programme for Parents and Teens. The Sinovuyo Programme for Parents and Teens is a parenting programme that aims to strengthen caregivers’ abilities to respond and protect adolescents from the risks of HIV by providing a nurturing and protective environment. - The programme strengthens the ability of parents and caregivers to provide a protective environment and ensure the health and wellbeing of children through positive parenting techniques and relationship-building. - Parents are taught how to use alternative parenting strategies to reduce adolescent problem behaviors and avoid harsh disciplining techniques at home. - A component of HIV-risk behavior prevention is built into the program through the use of culturally appropriate and context-relevant HIV prevention messages for parents and teens. This version of the program is designed to be relevant in various contexts with high HIV-prevalence. POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES: The primary responsibilities of the Sinovuyo Programme for Parents and Teens facilitators/coaches/trainers are: - To fully understand the Sinovuyo Programme for Parents and Teens philosophy, methodology, curriculum, and collaborative approach by attending the Sinovuyo training. - To facilitate the parent-teen group meetings, as outlined by the weekly curriculum. - To conduct home visits for families that miss sessions and provide continued support to families requiring additional support. - To maintain attendance records for group sessions and home visits conducted for missed sessions. - To recruit and maintain group participants. - To conduct pre and post home visits to undertake relevant assessments required by the program. - To liaise between the participants and the implementing partner ensuring that support to participants is provided and referrals made for services. - To be responsible for the preparation of group session meetings ensuring venue, instructional materials, and any additional logistics are in order. - To provide a mechanism for referrals and additional support from other social services. - To assure fidelity and quality of program delivery - To submit training and program reports and updates. IMpower Trainer of Instructors (TOI) will first go through an intensive, full-time 4-week training to learn the proven IMpower system of violence prevention, intervention, and recovery. During this training, TOIs will master a 12-hour curriculum for females ages 9-14 years that imparts mental, verbal and physical skills as well as feminist philosophy and human rights. They then will be responsible for implementing the IMpower curriculum with girls aged 9-14 years old in their own communities for at least 6 weeks. Following the direct delivery of IMpower with youth, TOI will go through a 2-week testing and training preparation workshop as a part of their certification process. Upon successful completion of this activity, this will be responsible for leading 3-week intensive training workshops to train new female IMpower Instructors. VACANCY ANNOUNCEMENT NUMBER: Addis-2019-069 Basic Function of Position: The incumbent will perform clinical laboratory duties in the Embassy Health Unit (HU) and provide a full range of professional clinical laboratory services to the Mission community. The position is under the direct supervision of the Regional Medical Officer (RMO)/Medical Provider (MP)/Regional Medical Laboratory Scientist (RMLS). In addition, the incumbent will conduct and participate in the educational and training functions of the HU. The incumbent will manage the Quality Assurance (QA) program including maintaining computer-based programs WORK HOURS: Full-time (40 hours/week) SALARY: Ordinarily Resident (OR): Position Grade: FSN-8, – 12,133.00 USD per year. Not Ordinarily Resident: FP-06 *Final grade/step for NORs will be determined by Washington. Duration of Appointment: Indefinite subject to the successful completion of the probationary period. NOTE: For ordinarily resident employees, salary will be paid in local currency using the established exchange rate. Job Requirements Required Education: Bachelor's degree or equivalent in medical technology, clinical laboratory science, chemistry, physical or biological science from a recognized institution is required. Must possess and maintain a current certification as a Medical Technologist/Medical Laboratory Scientist as required from the host nation, country of origin, or the U.S. Required Experience: A minimum of three (3) years of clinical laboratory experience in a hospital laboratory, health agency or medical research program is required. Language Requirement: Level III (Good working knowledge-speaking/reading/writing) in English is required. Level IV (Fluent) Reading/Writing/Speaking is required Amharic is required. (You are required to pass the English Placement Test (EPT) that is conducted by the Human Resources Office). Job Knowledge: Fully developed skills to perform waived to high complexity laboratory testing in the areas of hematology, urinalysis, chemistry, microbiology, serology, immunology, blood banking, and parasitology. Possess advanced critical thinking skills to analyze and interpret the results of such testing. Proficiency in specimen collection and phlebotomy are essential. Must be familiar with U.S. laboratory standards of testing and quality assurance practices as defined by the CLIA '88. Must have knowledge of laboratory equipment used in performing a variety of laboratory tests. (This may be tested).
