The Center for African Leadership Studies (CALS) transforms African medical, business, governmental, and nonprofit institutions and individuals with training, coaching, and organizational development that produces effective, values-based servant-leaders. The Center translates international evidence-based leadership development best practices into local cultural circumstances.

CALS has an initiative named xHub Addis, which is a social business incubator and coworking space that supports innovative, affordable, and scalable solutions that solve existing social problems for positive value. We provide our resources and mentorship to aspiring entrepreneurs and startup companies to be able to play a significant role in shaping the entrepreneurial culture and ecosystem here in Ethiopia!

CALS has also several projects and startups under its wings and is an expanding business in different areas.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Content Packaging: Manage social media platforms, updating regularly content including photos and videos and lead the design and packaging of multimedia content, ensuring that it is visually compelling and aligns with the intended audience.
  • Design Excellence: Maintain high design standards, driving innovation and creativity in content presentation, graphics, and visual elements.
  • Brand Development: Oversee the maintenance and evolution of the CALS /xHub brand identity, ensuring consistency and resonance with our target audience.
  • Brand Experience: Create a seamless and engaging brand experience across all touchpoints, including digital platforms, marketing materials, and events.
  • Collaboration: Collaborate closely with content production, marketing, and technology teams to ensure alignment of creative outputs with overall business goals.
  • Creative Strategy: Develop and execute a creative strategy that enhances the brand’s visual identity and sets it apart in the industry.
  • Support the communication team in collecting, writing, editing, and distributing various types of communication content including photos and videos that show the progress and achievements of the project to the different audiences through different communication channels.
  • Manage and update internal communication platforms including the WhatsApp group, quarterly newsletters, etc. to ensure staff and partners are updated on project progress and impact.
  • Assist in developing and regularly updating an annual plan of communication products that covers project deliverables, reports, success stories, blogs, social media, and other products.
  • Produce written, video, audio, photographic, graphic, and other forms of outreach campaign products for the communication channels identified (social media)
  • Review, edit and proofread communications and written outputs of the project to provide quality assurance
  • Help with designing and printing brochures, signage, banners, and technical displays, as required for program events.
  • Performs additional duties as assigned by the COO or others

Job Requirements

REQUIRED SKILLS, QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor (BA) Degree (MA or higher is a plus) in Communication, Marketing, English literature, business, or relevant Social Science from a recognized University/College.
  • At least 3 years of relevant work experience
  • Outstanding and effective oral communication and writing skills in English and Amharic.
  • Strong experience in social media platform content creation, analytics, and reporting, such as Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn, and YouTube.
  • Proficiency in MS Word, Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator, Adobe InDesign, and other desktop publishing software.
  • Experience in video/ audio editing software such as Adobe Premier or similar.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving capacities – the ability to identify issues with contractual implications, ensure consistent donor reporting, and support teams in providing appropriate analyses of activities.
  • Good interpersonal skills and a good team player
  • Excellent computer skills; Good proficiency in Microsoft Office – significant experience with Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.
  • This position is open to Ethiopian citizens. Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Design, Visual Arts, or a related field.
  • Proven experience in a graphic design role, with a focus on multimedia content packaging and brand design.
  • Exceptional design and creative abilities, with a portfolio showcasing innovative content packaging and branding projects.
  • Strong leadership and team management skills.
  • Strategic thinker with the ability to translate creative vision into impactful design.
  • Passion for user-centered design and delivering immersive brand experiences.
