JOB PURPOSE

The Tax Officer’s main job purpose is to support in managing tax risks across the business and interface with Tax authorities, UniOPs, and OSP to ensure tax exposure is minimized. Identify areas of opportunities where tax benefits can be realized. Support in tax compliance processes in the business including maintenance of documentation, process improvement, and activities to support 100% compliance. WHAT WILL YOUR MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES BE

The main purpose of the Tax Officer's role is to support the Finance team in ensuring compliance with tax regulations and optimizing tax strategies. Within the area of responsibilities*, the Tax Officer will:

  • Continuously review business transactions and advise on tax-efficient ways to minimize tax exposure.
  • Review new Tax laws, procedures, and regulations and interpret these given their implication to the business.
  • Support in addressing requests/queries that arise from the tax office and different government offices.
  • Ensure all sales refunds are done on time and make sure the proper documentation is in place.
  • Ensure compliance with internal reporting requirements.
  • Assist on-time and accurate filing of monthly and yearly tax returns.
  • Preparing monthly tax returns for EIT, technical WTH, and reverse VAT and ensuring all compliances are met.
  • Ensure tax appeals are submitted on time and the related necessary documents are provided.
  • Support in maintaining strong relationships with business functions, leaders, third-party consultants, and government agencies.
  • Supporting internal stakeholders on tax-related matters
  • Ensure that adequate documentation/data is created and maintained for tax planning and audit purposes.
  • Support during Tax audits and defend the company from tax risks raised by tax auditors by justifying the tax laws and also explaining transactions from the business perspective.
  • Any other tasks that may be assigned as appropriate.

Experiences & Qualifications

  • 2-year minimum relevant working experience in Tax in a busy environment.
  • Bachelor’s degree in finance/accounting or related field of study,
  • Familiarity with tax operations and knowledge and experience on Ethiopia tax rules and regulations.
  • Experience managing tax audits.
  • Ability to manage stakeholders in cross-functional roles.
  • Familiarity with SAP (desired).
  • Strong background and experience with audit methodologies and techniques.
