Job Description

Positive Action for Development (PAD) is an indigenous, non-governmental, non-profit making, secular and legally registered Ethiopian Civil Society Organization on June 6/2011 with a registration number 2330. The organization was established with a vision to see a community of hope, where poverty has been overcome and people live in dignity and security. The organization has a mission to save lives, promote hope, defeat poverty, and achieve social justice through integrated and sustainable development approaches. It is working in Emergency/lifesaving and Development thematic areas.

Under the supervision of the Emergency program manager and the technical backstopping of the immanency program head, the Health and Nutrition & FSL Coordinator will be responsible for leading the implementation and monitoring of PAD health and nutrition project activities in Waghimra Zone and across the country. The Health and Nutrition & FSL Coordinator will identify and address gaps in IMNCI provision activities and CMAM approaches as well as provide training and technical assistance, and support health facilities in implementing Health and nutrition programs.

Specific responsibilities include the following

  • Oversee the implementation of health and nutrition activities
  • Develop quality nutritional interventions by CMAM and IYCF protocols
  • Ensure that the project target population receives appropriate healthcare and nutritional support (e.g., EPI coverage, nutritional screening, acute malnutrition diagnosis and referral)
  • Organize and facilitate training IMNCI, HMIS and RMNCH protocols
  • Coordinate emergency clinical care for acute conditions
  • Coordinate health education focused on IYCF for beneficiaries
  • Coordinate, Record and document relevant activities (e.g., case notes/files)
  • Coordinate and work with the MHNT team members to deliver the service and contribute to good team spirit.
  • Network, liaise, and communicate with assigned health and nutrition clusters and regional offices.
  • Coordinate and Ensure that EPI coverage is optimal
  • Take the lead in developing a system that allows to vaccination of each infant including those not vaccinated for age children
  • Take the lead in developing a screening tool for community case detection of SAM in collaboration with health facilities
  • Advocate for legal and medical and other referral support services for beneficiaries
  • Coordinate and Advocate for timely linkage of SAM cases with OTP services in health facilities
  • Coordinate timely referral of complicated SAM cases to a stabilization center near the household
  • Organize refresher training on CMAM and IYCF practices for health workers in the health facilities
  • Producing timely progress reports, including both quantitative and qualitative information, on health and nutrition activities and sharing them to the immediate supervisor
  • Identify and build links with other partners, to ensure that proper nutritional assistance is given to communities in appropriate forms (e.g., fortification and supplementation)
  • Develop response strategies and action plans based on the epidemiology of diseases and nutritional values of food in the area
  • Coordinate and Implement strategies to improve the capacity of OPD and NRU ward staff at the zonal/woreda level
  • Coordinate and Map referral services and pathways and develop templates and procedures for follow-up and referrals
  • Any other task assigned by his/her supervisor

Job Requirements

Qualification: MSC, BSc degree and above in Public Health, Nutrition, or other health-related fields.

Experience: a minimum of 5 years’ experience as a health and nutrition activities coordinator, and a minimum of 3 years ' experience in disaster/humanitarian crisis contexts.

Skills Required:

  • Experience in providing training on IMNCI, HMIS, RMNCH, CMAM, and IYCF

  • Thorough understanding of case management and social work.
  • Experience working in NGOs or in an emergency context.
  • Good communication skills with different stakeholders.
  • Fosters working in teams & teamwork spirit.
  • Flexible and creative approach; keen to take initiative where appropriate.
  • Accountability & responsiveness within areas of responsibilities
