Organization For Welfare and Development in Action (OWDA) is an Ethiopian Residents Charity organization registered in FDRE Agency for Civil Society Organizations (ACSO) with Certificate No. 0421 and operating in Somali Region since 1999 GC. OWDA would like to announce the vacancy of the following position.

Purpose 

The project aims primarily to improve access to and the quality of health services with a focus on life-saving Mother and Child Health (MCH) interventions. The proposed activities include ensuring high-quality basic Maternal and child health services at Gursum, Shilabo, and Dhobaywn; improving access to and utilization of MCH services, capacity-building, community sensitization and mentoring through mobile health team. In relation to improving prevention, monitoring and control of epidemics in the targeted woredas, such as acute watery diarrhea (AWD), COVID-19, and measles, the focus is also on the support of infection prevention and control (IPC)/medical waste management during the routine outreach, cold chain management for staff at room area where the cold chain is limited

Job Description 

The position holder shall be in charge of the technical quality implementation of the maternal health services in the targeted districts. She/he will mainly be responsible for the Daily/weekly/monthly implementation MCH services in collaboration with the other staff members of the mobile teams. He/she will provide on the job training for the Health Extension Workers and Community Health Volunteers in order to be strengthening high-quality MCH services in the woredas that the project will target.

Main Responsibility 
  • The Midwife will be responsible for the implementation of maternal and new health services and MCH strengthening in Shilabo, Dhobwayn, and Gursum woredas;
  • Provides immediate newborn care;
  • Provides immediate postnatal follow up and timely consultation when problems arise;
  • Ensure the provision of ANC services is provided in a quality manner;
  • Ensures the maintenance of high-level standards and applies universal precautions to infection prevention;
  • Manage obstetric and gynecologic cases at field level and refer in case further support is a need;
  • Assists postpartum women in initiating breastfeeding postpartum women on danger signs, family planning, and HTC;
  • Provides counseling to laboring and postpartum women;
  • Puts the interest of clients/patients above all other considerations and ensures the confidentiality of all cases;
  • Prepares and submits periodic reports as required;
  • Adherence to maternal health treatment protocols and procedures for women and newborn;

Technical Skills, Experience & Knowledge:

  • Degree in midwife nursing for 2 years of experience or diploma in midwife nursing for 5-year experience  in humanitarian context;
  • Good communication skills with excellent knowledge of computer reporting skills;
  • Commitment to and understanding of OWDA's  aims, values, and principles;
  • Fluent in written and spoken English;
  • Interested to work in a remote area;
