Internal/External Vacancy Announcement #038/2020 SDR- ASAL Programme As an international cooperation enterprise for sustainable development with worldwide operations, the federally owned ‘Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit’ (GIZ) GmbH supports the German government in achieving its development policy objectives. GIZ promotes complex reforms and change processes. In Ethiopia, GIZ has been working for more than 40 years in bilateral cooperation on behalf of the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) and on the commission of the Ethiopian government and international donors. The Ethiopian government recognizes the high economic value of the lowland areas and their products. Therefore, the pastoral and agro-pastoral population is supported in strengthening their drought resilience, allowing them to adapt their farming system to a changing natural and economic environment. German development cooperation participates with the programme “Strengthening Drought Resilience of the Pastoral and Agro-Pastoral Population in the Lowlands of Ethiopia” (SDR-ASAL) in selected areas in Afar and Somali region. The programme comprises of seven projects. Major activities are participatory land-use planning with all stakeholders in selected kebeles, water harvesting, and rehabilitation of degraded dry valleys followed by participatory rangeland management as well as training for pastoralists, administration and service providers. The Knowledge Management Team of SDR-ASAL programme is currently establishing a new and central Knowledge Management Data System (Knowledge Management Data Station, KMDS) with the purpose of optimizing the knowledge-flow and information access for its offices in Addis Ababa and in Afar and Somali region. During preparation and roll-out of the KMDS, the intern assists the knowledge management team of the programme in implementing an efficient and secure data system in accordance with the rules and regulations of GIZ. Responsibilities: Prepare, test and assist in the roll-out the Knowledge Management Data Station (KMDS) for SDR-ASAL. Integrate the KMDS into the structure of the Data Management System (DMS) of SDR-ASAL and into the connected cloud system. Assist in preparing and moving data to the KMDS. Assist in the development of communication strategies. Provide information from KMDS on request. Assist in the developmental of SDR file name coding process. Tasks: Under the supervision of the advisor for knowledge management and capacity building: Assist in quality checks for materials, such as publications, papers, presentations, information material, brochures, posters, manuals and reports regarding consistency and completeness and ensure formal standards. Test permission rights for the various user groups in DMS. Upload and download data from and to servers and online sources as required for the establishment of the data bank of KMDS. Assist in testing a pilot system with pilot users from Addis Ababa and the regional offices of SDR-ASAL. Assist in collecting staff user requests and problems related to KMDS and implement feedback for users. Assist in writing a user manual in English language. Prepare presentation drafts and training material related to KM for the instruction of staff in Addis Ababa and the regional offices. Qualifications and Experience: B.A in the field of communication or closely related studies, with university degree, obtained not more than one year ago; Initial experience in data management, knowledge management or short-term trainings on the subject matter. Competences: Excellent communication skills verbally and written in English language proficiency. IT knowledge related to data bank development. Very good computer skills, esp. Microsoft Office. Very good attention to detail. Good analytic and organizing skills. Very high capacity of teamwork with internal staff members also in the regional offices High degree of initiative and creativeness. Willingness to travel to Afar and Somali regions if it is necessary.
