The Ethiopian Society of Sociologists, Social Workers and Anthropologists (ESSSWA) have been implementing a project entitled: “Strengthening Social Services System in Ethiopia (SSSSE)” with financial and technical support from the United States Agency for International Development (USAID). The overall objective of the project is to improve social services provided to HIV and AIDS infected and affected Orphan and Vulnerable Children (OVC) and their families in Ethiopia by strengthening social service system and social service workforce and capacity building in four Regional Sates (Tigray, Amhara, Oromia and SNNP) and Addis Ababa and Dire Dawa City Administrations. ESSSWA with FHI 360 and 22 Implementing Partners intends to implement the Sinovuyo Teens Program for parents and adolescents curriculum across three regions (Amhara, Oromia, and SNNP) and Addis Ababa city administration. ESSSWA is currently looking for competent and qualified candidates to fill the position stated below. Therefore, interested professionals who fulfill the requirements are hereby invited to apply for this post. POSITION DESCRIPTION: ESSSWA is collaborating with FHI360 to implement Sinovuyo Programme for Parents and Teens. The Sinovuyo Programme for Parents and Teens is a parenting programme that aims to strengthen caregivers’ abilities to respond and protect adolescents from the risks of HIV by providing a nurturing and protective environment. - The programme strengthens the ability of parents and caregivers to provide a protective environment and ensure the health and wellbeing of children through positive parenting techniques and relationship-building. - Parents are taught how to use alternative parenting strategies to reduce adolescent problem behaviors and avoid harsh disciplining techniques at home. - A component of HIV-risk behavior prevention is built into the program through the use of culturally appropriate and context-relevant HIV prevention messages for parents and teens. This version of the program is designed to be relevant in various contexts with high HIV-prevalence. POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES: The primary responsibilities of the Sinovuyo Programme for Parents and Teens facilitators/coaches/trainers are: - To fully understand the Sinovuyo Programme for Parents and Teens philosophy, methodology, curriculum, and collaborative approach by attending the Sinovuyo training. - To facilitate the parent-teen group meetings, as outlined by the weekly curriculum. - To conduct home visits for families that miss sessions and provide continued support to families requiring additional support. - To maintain attendance records for group sessions and home visits conducted for missed sessions. - To recruit and maintain group participants. - To conduct pre and post home visits to undertake relevant assessments required by the program. - To liaise between the participants and the implementing partner ensuring that support to participants is provided and referrals made for services. - To be responsible for the preparation of group session meetings ensuring venue, instructional materials, and any additional logistics are in order. - To provide a mechanism for referrals and additional support from other social services. - To assure fidelity and quality of program delivery - To submit training and program reports and updates. Duration: January to September 30, 2020 CANDIDATE QUALIFICATIONS INCLUDE: Requirements - First degree in health, social work, psychology and gender - English Language - Must be proficient in English, specifically able to read and speak - Proficient in Amharic and knowledge of other local language is advantageous - Available to implement Sinovuyo Programme for Parents and Teens from January 12, 2020 through September 30, 2020 - Previous experience working with community members e.g. voluntary, faith-based organization, local govt structures, school, community groups on gender-based violence, parenting, HIV/AIDS.
