Job Description To manage and run embassy events and high-level visits. The job holder will focus on promoting the work and image of the UK in Ethiopia through engaging events both on and off the beautiful embassy compound. The jobholder will also work with teams across the embassy to help organize and deliver high-profile inward visits by UK government Ministers and other senior visitors. Roles and responsibilities: - The UK’s Embassy in Addis Ababa is one of our largest in Africa, and the development program run from within it is our biggest on the continent. The UK also works closely with the Government of Ethiopia on matters of regional and international security, and in promoting economic reform and protecting human rights. - We are proud of our longstanding bilateral relationship with Ethiopia and as Ethiopia reforms, we are keen to showcase the positive role the UK is having in supporting these reforms. This new role has been created to help support our ambitious events program and our regular flow of ministerial visitors. - The successful candidate’s primary role will be to help organize and deliver a range of embassy events that highlight the British Embassy’s work in Ethiopia as well as the UK’s world-leading cultural, academic and sporting institutions. Working as part of a small new team, and engaging closely with the British Council who lead on cultural exchange, the jobholder will play an important role in our efforts to engage with influential Ethiopians by building connections with academic, cultural and charitable organizations. The successful candidate will therefore both require exceptional organizational skills and a creative mindset to identify new or different opportunities for engagement. - The job holder will also provide support to the embassy’s growing number of Ministerial and high-profile visits. To do this they will need to use their strong organizational skills to ensure that people are in the right place at the right time, working with others across the embassy to ensure visit programs deliver real impact. The role requires discretion, understanding and anticipating the needs of VIP visitors to ensure they are given an informative and hospitable stay in Ethiopia. The successful candidate will need to be a confident communicator, able to engage equally comfortable with the Ambassador and Ministers or with contractors and temporary event staff. - The role sits within the Communications and Soft Power team and there will be opportunities to learn new skills, particularly in communications and digital media where the successful candidate will be expected to support other staff during busy periods in their workload. - This is a busy and varied job with lots of senior exposure. There will also be a chance for fun along the way and the job holder will have the full support of the wider embassy team to deliver. Essential qualifications, skills and experience - At least 2 years’ working experience. - Fluent English and Amharic. Desirable qualifications, skills and experience - Experience and knowledge of running events and of working in/with an international institution is desirable.
