Job Description

Job Overview

Under the supervision of the Senior WPE/CP officer and Sr WPE Manager, the WPE officer will supervise the response and prevention of WPE. The WPE officer will train and supervise WPE assistants, and IDP social workers workers to respond and ensure the effectiveness of WPE activities in the IDP camp. This includes providing ongoing training and mentorship for WPE assistants and utilizing monitoring and evaluation systems to ensure high-quality services. The WPE officer will support the WPE assistant in managing survivors of gender-based violence who tend to have multiple needs with the support of the WOWCA case worker, the WPE will continuously attend and coordinate with partners from the protection, health, legal, and psychosocial sectors committed to reducing the incidence of violence against women. The WPE Officer will also establish and maintain networks with community leaders, women leaders, service providers, and camp management to ensure that women and girls receive compassionate support from the community.

Major Responsibilities:

  • Closely follow up with Supply Chain to ensure delivery of the materials on time.
  • Carry out skills-building sessions including handicraft activities, recreational activities, and information dissemination sessions at Women and Girls safe spaces.
  • Strengthen case management capacity through mentoring CM and providing basic supplies including suspension files and file cabinets to BoWCA.
  • Establish and strengthen one Women and Girls safe spaces in Erer and Biki woreda.
  • Organize age-gender and culturally appropriate psychosocial support programming for children and women in a safe space.
  • Mini campaign on consequences of FGM and child marriage.
  • Establish and strengthen community dialogue groups with influential local figures on harmful practices, referral pathways, and timely reporting mechanisms!
  • Conduct monthly coordination meetings with the BoWCA, Woreda administration officials, Disaster Risk Management Commission
  • Awareness raising activities including community dialogue sessions on GBV.
  • Conduct a field visit to targeted IDP sites and initiate discussions with the relevant government actors and community leaders on the selection criteria of beneficiaries and strategies for distribution.
  • Regularly follow the achievement Vs the plan.
  • Continues to Check budget spending plans
  • Closely follow activities and indicators target.
  • To develop monthly and weekly action plans and update them as per the requirements.
  • To collect weekly reports and compile them into monthly reports
  • Conduct GBV coordination meetings every month.
  • Conduct skill assessments for WPE assistants and social workers
  • To build and maintain close relationships with government partners and other INGO
  • In this position, the WPE officer will magala’ad site and one WPE team and 5 social workers will be under his supervision.

Safeguarding Responsibilities:-

  • Promote and actively participate in initiatives and efforts to build team engagement, inclusion, and cohesion in IRC [team/office]
  • Foster ongoing learning, honest dialogue, and reflection to strengthen safeguarding and promote IRC values and adherence to IRC policies

Qualifications

Job Requirements

Educational Requirements:

  • BA/BSc degree in Social Work, Psychology, Public Health, Nursing, Women’s Studies, or related work experience
  • Diploma of social work, psychology PH, and women studies with 4 years of experience.

Preferred experience & skills:

  • A minimum of 2 years of working experience (2 years for first degree or 1 year for postgraduate degree) and 5 years for diploma holders.
  • Related work and field experiences in counseling or social service provision with women and adolescent girls.
  • Demonstrated confidence in discussing intimate gender and sexuality issues.
  • Able to always maintain GBV and protection principles – including knowledge and practical application of the GBV Guiding Principles and PSEA.
  • Strong organizational, interpersonal, coordination, and diplomatic skills are required.
  • Able to organize, maintain composure, prioritize work under pressure, able to coordinate multiple tasks, and maintain attention to detail.
  • Willing to travel to potentially insecure sites with an IRC vehicle or rental vehicle, with security assessment and travel approval by the field coordinator.
  • Familiarity working in the Somali region.
  • Ability to use MS Office, word, excel, and Outlook email applications very well.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills as well as, an overall ability to be clear and concise in all communications
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills; proven ability to prioritize and deliver on time
  • Strong analytic problem-solving skills
  • Ability to work both independently and in a dynamic, cross-functional global team structure
  • Highly proficient in Microsoft Office suite
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with stakeholders at all levels
  • Ability to manage and work through change proactively and positively.

Language Skills:

  •  Fluency in English (written and speaking) is mandatory. The ability to speak the local language is advantageous.
