The European Union (EU) is an economic and political partnership between 27 European countries. It plays an important role in international affairs through diplomacy, trade, development aid and working with global organizations. Abroad, the EU is represented through more than 140 diplomatic representations. known also as EU Delegations, which have a similar function to those of an embassy.

The EU Delegation to Ethiopia ensures:

  • The tasks of the EU Presidency in Ethiopia's host country
  • The representation of the European Union to Ethiopia
  • The follow-up of bilateral relations in the areas of political, economic, trade and external assistance cooperation (financial & technical)
  • The follow-up of EU policies in other sectors
  • The follow-up of EU policies to identify opportunities for synergies and/or in-coherences between such policies and poverty reduction in line with policy coherence for development (Art 208 TFEU)
  • Promotes and defends the values and interests of the EU:
  • Coordinates the work of the Member States Embassies, particularly in the fields of EU competences, notably trade and external assistance
  • Carries out CFSP (Common Foreign Security Policy) demarches as appropriate; reports to Headquarters on all matters of interest for EU policies;
  • Carries out press and public diplomacy activities in pursuit of the above
  • Ensures the long-term programming of aid and the management of programmes and devolved projects within the framework of the current reform of External Aid Management
  • Ensures implementation of the Communication on a stronger Partnership to deliver Market Access by means of market access teams
  • Ensures the follow-up of EU policies in all sectors in particular the Communication on a stronger partnership to deliver Market Access by means of market access teams: provides any necessary support for visits by Members of the EEAS, Commission. Council and Parliament.

We offer the post of Administrative Assistant in the Administration Section of the EU Delegation to Ethiopia.

Under this post, the recruited person will be attributed functions depending on the needs of the Delegation. Upon recruitment, the successful candidate will occupy the specific job function as "Administrative Assistant" This job function may be changed in accordance with the needs of the Delegation.

Under this job function, the successful candidate will serve as technical staff whose duties and responsibilities shall include:

  • Mission validation and settlement of mission expenses
  • Finding houses for expatriate staff and concluding lease contract after HoA approval
  • Handling all administrative processes for Lease contracts and filling the documents
  • Serve as contact person in case of emergency
  • Follow-up of service contracts for cleaning, gardening, security, equipment maintenance, office maintenance and repairs, electrical works, fuel and generator status
  • Liaise with government offices to deal with different matters
  • Enter data on Immogst
  • Management of ABAC asset
  • Follow HoD residence issues
  • Responsible for driver assignment/Backup person for some other Admin staff
  • Perform any other duties assigned by the HOA

Place of Employment: Delegation of the European Union to Ethiopia - Addis Ababa

Employment Contract: Indefinite

Working Hours/Week: 37.5

Group II - with a starting basic salary of 1,913 EUR/month (payable equivalent in Ethiopian Birr)

Selection Criteria

Minimum Requirements:

  1. Medically fit to perform the required duties
  2. Enjoys civil rights and permits for employment under local law
  3. BA degree in Management, Logistics Management or a related field of study
  4. Minimum of 5 years working experience in a similar position
  5. Minimum English language competency ability to understand: C2, read: C2, speak C2 and write C2
  6. High level of computer literacy

The following will be considered an asset:

  1. Additional degrees or training related to the position
  2. Experience in the field with an international group or a diplomatic mission
  3. Knowledge of the French language
