The International Livestock Research Institute (ILRI) seeks to recruit a Communications Officer II who will support the production of graphics, multimedia, and layout and design for ILRI and CGIAR products. The position will also support Ethiopia-based programs and projects’ branding, visual storytelling, and reporting.

The International Livestock Research Institute (ILRI) works to improve food and nutritional security and reduce poverty in developing countries through research for efficient, safe, and sustainable use of livestock. It is the only one of 15 CGIAR research centers dedicated entirely to animal agriculture research for the developing world. Co-hosted by Kenya and Ethiopia, it has regional or country offices and projects in East, South, and Southeast Asia as well as Central, East, Southern, and West Africa. www.ilri.org.

Key Responsibilities:

Graphic design for ILRI and CGIAR products;

  • Creating original concepts and designs for graphic products including logos, infographics, illustrations, data visualization, templates, etc. for corporate use

Produce visual storytelling products to highlight ILRI and CGIAR impact;

  • Take photos and develop them into multimedia products
  • Film and edit videos

Design and layout ILRI and CGIAR publications;

  • Contribute to ILRI’s publishing with the layout and design of various outputs
  • Support ad hoc graphic design requests

Support high-profile engagement and stakeholder management events;

  • Provide photo and video coverage of ILRI and CGIAR events

Contribute to overall ILRI program/project publishing, graphics and design workflows, and corporate branding;

  • Design branding items, templates, and other visual products for ILRI and CGIAR projects and programs
  • Update templates, campus branding, and roll-out of new designs

Ensure published outputs meet ILRI and CGIAR standards and are open access;

  • Review and update multimedia products for design and branding consistency
  • Manage ILRI photo and video libraries

Academic and professional qualifications:

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in communication, fine arts, and design or related discipline.
  • Proven experience in graphic design, video/multimedia production, photography, and other communications-related work.
  • Experience using Adobe InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop, and video editing software such as Final Cut Pro or Adobe Premiere.
  • Broad/specialized knowledge of methods, techniques, and processes

Experience:

  • Six years of work experience in a graphic design environment, advertising agency, or development organization.
  • Applicants must provide a portfolio or links to past work. Work must be their own.

Skills:

  • Excellent written and spoken English.
  • A keen eye for aesthetics and detail.
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills and ability to work well with a team.
  • Experience working in multi-disciplinary and multi-cultural teams.
  • Proven ability to work within strict deadlines.
  • Proven ability to work independently.
  • Ability to travel to local, regional, and international locations.

Duty Station: Addis Ababa, Ethiopia

Grade: HG 14

Minimum Base Salary:

Birr 54,708 per month (negotiable depending on the salary history of the candidate)

Terms of appointment: This is a National Staff (NS) position, initial appointment is for three years with the possibility of renewal, contingent upon individual performance and the availability of funding. The ILRI remuneration package for nationally recruited staff in Ethiopia includes a very competitive salary and benefits such as life and medical insurance, an offshore pension plan, etc. The ILRI campus is set in a secure, attractive campus in Addis Ababa. Dining and sports facilities are located on-site.
