JOB SUMMARY

The Set/Props Designer is responsible for creating, buying or finding all of the set/props property for a production. He/ She makes sure that every set/props perfectly reflects the production’s style.

MAIN ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES (not limited to):

  • Communicate with the production manager and director to understand their requirements, and receive a formal brief for the project.
  • Understand scripts and production specifications.
  • Collaborates with the director to design the layout and look of the set using pencil sketches and software.
  • Research for historical, architectural, and cultural details and incorporate these into the set.
  • Tech-recce of the selected location with the director and location manager for blocking.
  • Selecting lighting, furniture, wall and floor coverings, and all other props used on set.
  • Prepare model/mood board presentations for the director’s approval and implement changes as required.
  • Provides cost estimates and negotiates with vendors to secure the best deals to fall on the budget.
  • Share the final presentation with the production manager to get final approval from the client;
  • Inspects stage entrances and exits to ensure the set is positioned correctly and also performs quality assurance on all aspects of the set.
  • Briefs crew and actors on set safety and also explains how the set operates.
  • Manages transport and storage of props for durable usage.
  • Print the shoot list and call sheet for the shoot and follow up with the schedule throughout the shoot.
  • Puts all the set designs and props in a well-organized manner for next usage.

QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIRED SKILLS:

  • Experience in art, design, crafting, and/or carpentry is a plus.
  • Experience working in film, TV, or similar production.
  • Art-based qualification is an advantage.
  • Knowledge of architecture, interior design, various materials, and tools.
  • Attention to detail and cost awareness.
  • Creative mindset.
  • Good verbal communication and listening skills.
  • Outstanding interpersonal skills to work with different types of people.
