Job Description

Job Overview:

The IT officer is responsible for supporting/assisting IRC staff directly or indirectly related to any computers and IT equipment, software, IRC standards, and IRC work. The IT Officer is responsible for the implementation of the IRC IT Policy and training staff on the IT policy. The IT officer also needs to perform tasks that are requested by the immediate supervisor and technical supervisors from Addis this position reports to the Senior Field Manager and will have the following responsibilities:

Major Responsibilities:

  • Ensure all IRC standard software is installed on every IRC computers
  • Support staff in Network, Hardware, and software issues
  • Make sure the Network Infrastructure is properly functioning.
  • Ensure IRC Computers are Safe and Virus Protected
  • Frequently monitor the internet usage of the office Internet connection.
  • Support Procurement officers in Identifying the right IT-related equipment’s purchase
  • Follow up on IT-related equipment maintenance in collaboration with other units
  • Prepare a field visit program/schedule and implement it.
  • Remotely Check KACE machines in the field and include their status in the weekly report.
  • Frequently travel to the field for IT support visits as planned and as the need arises.
  • Take IRC computer inventory audit report periodically.
  • Keep track of helpdesk tickets and assign them to the responsible staff
  • Manage Melkadida/Dollo Ado Offices’ network including the Servers, APs and PABX system
  • Follow up if the internet connection is not working or when there is a slow connection.
  • Install and maintain Local-area networks (LAN), which includes all field offices in the IRC Ethiopia Program.
  • Installing and configuring network devices like Print Servers, Switch/Hubs, routers, and cabling (Class B).
  • Configure a computer to connect to the local area network.
  • Installing and configuring network software on a server.

Ensure proper naming and tagging of IT equipment and ensure safe software is installed.

  • Properly name all IRC computers and network devices.
  • Periodic inspection and auditing of IT and network equipment.
  • Remove unsafe and non-licensed as well as non-IRC standard software from computers.
  • Follow up all IT equipment i.e. computers, printers, and photocopiers are dust protected.

Provide continued IT support and Training

  • Follow-up computer and network users are using internet service without interruption.
  • Provide continued support for IRC staff on,
  • On Prolog usage.
  • BVA system usage
  • Finance software e.g. sun
  • Printer and Scanner usage.
  • IT equipment usage.
  • On how to access IRC network and web-based services.
  • On how to take backups from their system and recover files.
  • Awareness creation about IRC IT police and IRC web-based services individually and in groups.
  • Work in cooperation with the ISP (Internet Service Provider) Ethio-Telecom to fix problems when service failure occurs from their side.
  • Orient and train new user staff on IRC web-based services and policies. Such as:

  • Provide Ms office training for IRC staff as per the demand

Safeguarding Responsibilities: -

  • Promote and actively participate in initiatives and efforts to build team engagement, inclusion, and cohesion in IRC [team/office]
  • Foster ongoing learning, honest dialogue, and reflection to strengthen safeguarding and to promote IRC values and adherence to IRC policies.

Qualifications

Job Requirements

Educational Requirements

  • BSC/MSC in computer science, Information Technology, or other related fields
  • 2 years of relevant experience with the first degree.
  • 1 year of relevant experience plus a post-graduate degree.

Relevant Experience

  • Relevant experience in Networking, System Administration, Database Management, and IT Support
  • CISCO, MCSE, or Other certifications/training in Information Communication Technology, Training on Advanced/specialized computer applications are advantages
  • LAN administration and Windows Server 2008 experience.
  • NGO experience is a plus.
