The International Livestock Research Institute (ILRI) seeks to recruit a Platform Coordinator to support the research-for-development agenda by sustaining and catalyzing interaction between the scientific contributions of a team of poultry development researchers with the key constituencies involved in co-designing and implementing chicken genetic innovations to achieve sustainable impact. This will be achieved using improved knowledge management systems, identifying appropriate complementary investments, policy influencing approaches and forging alliances and partnerships with key poultry stakeholders in the Tropics.

ILRI works to improve food security and nutrition and reduce poverty in developing countries through research for efficient, safe and sustainable use of livestock. It is the only one of 11 CGIAR research centers dedicated entirely to animal agriculture research for the developing world. Co-hosted by Kenya and Ethiopia, ILRI has regional or country offices and projects in East, South and Southeast Asia as well as Central, East, Southern and West Africa. www.ilri.org??

Key Responsibilities

Responsibilities

  • Lead partnership identification, stakeholder relationship management and engagement processes related to the Tropical Poultry Genetics Solutions (TPGS) agenda, with an emphasis on bridging the research program with the imperative to scale existing solutions, innovations, and practices, and contribute to policy advocacy actions.
  • Lead the development of thought pieces for establishing a Tropical Poultry Platform (TROP) and help launch the process. Once established, coordinate stakeholder contributions, lead awareness creation and related influencing and brokering functions aligned to TROP?s objectives.
  • Contribute to the resource mobilization efforts of the team in support of the TPGS agenda.
  • Collaborate on research publications that articulate how the TPGS agenda is harnessing innovations and achieving impact through taking these innovations to scale.
  • Contribute to the design and implementation of effective capacity-building and communications initiatives as required to support the TPGS agenda.
  • Contribute to TPGS project coordination and reporting requirements in-line with ILRI/One CGIAR and donor policies and procedures, while ensuring timeliness and, quality..
  • Work closely with the Principal Scientist/Principal Investigator of TPGS to advance, as necessary, the TPGS agenda in internal, external, and international fora, communicating research findings at the policy and practice level and gathering inputs and insights to feedback into the research agenda.

Requirements

  • Ph.D. in Agricultural Development, Development Studies, Agribusiness, Rural Development, or related field.
  • At least seven years of related progressive experience
  • Ability to coordinate complex livestock research and development programs
  • Experience in partnership development, engagement, and management
  • Evidence of successful and sustained interactions with both private and public sector actors
  • Record of resource mobilization success in agricultural/livestock development projects
  • Policy brokering/influencing experience.
  • High-level writing and communication skills
  • Demonstration of relevant contacts and networks in the livestock industry
  • Experience with developing and managing innovative scientific and development projects.
  • Understanding of poultry systems and livestock economy, and themes surrounding rural livelihood diversification.

Post location: The position will be based in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.

Terms of Appointment

This position is at job level HG 19 and it is open to both national and international applicants. The position is a three (3) year contract, renewable subject to satisfactory performance and availability of funding.
