About the role

As a Growth Catalyst, you will support our entrepreneurs and the businesses we work with through their business development journey. Using GrowthAfrica?s proprietary method and tools you will be assigned businesses whom you will assist in thinking through key aspects of their business model, and their strategies ? be it product design, marketing, supply chain, or sales and distribution.

Key Responsibilities

Accelerator

  • Identify high-potential and growth-oriented early-stage ventures for our programmes.
  • Lead and manage project teams in disaggregating problems and providing solutions to address them on behalf of our project clients.
  • Develop innovative strategies and solutions for our clients.
  • Manage work project work streams and provide direction.
  • Coach, manage and support junior team members.
  • Oversee and ensure the quality of client deliverables.
  • Support the process of screening and selecting business applicants, putting together an exciting cohort, including the collection of relevant information and data.
  • Assist in business development workshops ensuring the successful adoption and use of the GrowthAfrica methodology and tools.
  • Individualized follow-up with the businesses. During the implementation of plans made during the workshops, further, assist in the proper adoption and use of the GrowthAfrica methodology and tools. Ensure that the businesses arrive well-prepared for the business development workshops.
  • Look for and approach appropriate mentors for our ?businesses".
  • Liaise with the Heads of departments on the progress of the businesses, including writing periodic progress reports.
  • Develop financial models and help in collecting information and relevant data where needed.
  • Reporting and documentation for funders, mentors, investors, and other stakeholders.
  • Help in the development of investor presentations for the businesses.
  • Perform any other task assigned by your line manager.

Projects

  • Ensure delivery of project strategy plans based on a logical framework approach.
  • Maintain project timeframes, objectives, and communication.
  • Create and manage documentation and reports for projects.
  • Together with the Head of Advisory, identify, understand, and implement the goals and requirements of each project.
  • Verify data and information and analyse it to suit the direction of a project.
  • Track, forecast and report on project progress, including metrics and challenges.
  • Collect the necessary information required to start the project from relevant stakeholders.
  • Support business generation ideas through proposal writing, identifying EOIs and RFPs to build a future pipeline.

?Requirements

  • 5+ years of experience in SME development, financial services, consulting, business operations, or marketing, with a relevant university or graduate degree. Collaborating with entrepreneurs and small businesses is highly preferred.
  • Demonstrated excellent understanding of strategies for how to help businesses grow, with expertise in one or more of the following areas: business finance, business planning and strategy, sales and marketing, product development, or human resource management. The ability to produce financial reports/projections for clients is highly preferred.
  • Deep understanding of market and growth strategies for businesses in different sectors.
  • Worked in a start-up or small business environment, and/or have direct experience supporting start-ups. Willing to wear many hats and help wherever needed.
  • Have a passion for and exceptional understanding of the Kenyan entrepreneurship ecosystem.
  • Earlier coaching, teaching, training, or facilitation experience preferred.
  • You have excellent business knowledge and judgment. You can quickly analyse the gaps and opportunities within a business and sketch the best way forward. You know what you don?t know, and how to look for that information.
  • You thrive in an entrepreneurial environment. You are an independent self-starter who flourishes in a changing environment and can manage yourself. You have excellent collaboration, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • You are a systems builder and/or optimizer. You are process-oriented and always looking for ways to improve systems to not solve the same problem twice. You will be called upon to build structures with your team as GrowthAfrica continues to grow.
  • You make things happen. You have a proven track record of meeting targets on time and within budget. You are creative, solutions-oriented, and willing to put in the time it takes to do an excellent job. You follow through.
