We’re on a mission to conserve the world’s most critically biodiverse forests. Forested is a building marketplace for ingredients that are climate-neutral, nature-positive, and socially just. We help consumer packaged goods (CPG) brands source natural products of exceptional quality direct from forest communities, starting in Ethiopia.
Position Description
- We are an early-stage start-up at an inflection point of growth. As Deputy General Manager, you will lead the strategy, execution, and performance of Forested’s first and flagship operations and team in Ethiopia focused on forest bee products. You will manage a range of business functions:
- Oversee all operations and process improvements from forest to market, including but not limited to: contract farming, sourcing, agro-processing, inventory management, procurement, importing/exporting, marketing and sales
- Lead people strategy and management
- Define, implement, and revise operational policies and guidelines for the organization
- Oversee Forested’s data collection and analysis function
- Manage select donor-funded projects, including relationship management, reporting, program implementation, troubleshooting, and integration with greater business goals
- Represent the business at external and internal events
- Work with CEO to develop and execute new growth directives: payments for ecosystem services (PES), geographical expansion, product/service expansion, technology development and/or integration, partnerships, fundraising
- Work with the CEO to manage Forested Ethiopia’s P&L and lead cost management and revenue analysis
Required skills and experience
- 4+ years of experience working in the following industries: agriculture; sourcing; agro-processing
- 2+ years of experience leading and managing teams, including recruitment and team building
- 2+ years of supply chain operations management
- 1+ years of experience managing a business or business unit’s profit and loss statements
Language: Fluent English; other languages a plus
Other desired skills and experience
- Familiarity with financial models: can take existing models and thereafter own modifications and generate actionable insights; modeling skills a plus
- Experience/exposure to the following areas: data science, technology integration, international marketing, fundraising, agroecology, smallholder contract farming
