Founded in 2006, One Acre Fund supplies 1 million smallholder farmers with the agricultural services they need to make their farms vastly more productive. Our 8,000+ team is drawn from diverse backgrounds and professions. With operations across six core countries in Africa, we make farmers more prosperous by providing quality farm supplies on credit, delivered within walking distance of farmers’ homes, and agricultural training to improve harvests. On average, our farmers harvest 50 percent more food after working with One Acre Fund.

ABOUT THE ROLE

We are looking for someone to manage the expansion of our "core" tree program, the development and roll-out of impact innovations, and the development and trialing of scale innovations. You will report directly to the Country Director and will manage a team of 50+ professionals and field staff, plus 500+ seasonal staff. You will lead tree program growth, innovations, and financial sustainability while guiding rising leaders to their full potential. You will:

  • Build a team of independent leaders, directly managing a team of three Program Associates who manage a team of over 50 full-time staff
  • You will create a fun, positive, diverse, equitable, and inclusive working environment
  • Grow our agroforestry field programs
  • Over the next few years, you will quadruple the size of operations, ensuring excellence on a team working with local farmer-entrepreneurs who run hundreds of tree nurseries
  • Guide scale innovations and impact improvement
  • You will determine, prioritize and delegate opportunities to increase financial sustainability and impact per client, including radical scale trials and revenue generation
  • Contribute to country-wide strategy and grow to lead other programs, you will work closely with the Country Director and steering committee to develop a strategy
  • Over time, you'll increase your scope to include managing other programs

QUALIFICATIONS

Across all roles, these are the general qualifications we look for. For this role specifically, you will have:

  • At least five years of professional work experience
  • At least two years in a dynamic organization involving management of rural field staff
  • At least one year working in or studying agroforestry or agriculture
  • At least three years of leading teams and developing other managers
  • A minimum of a Bachelor's Degree
  • Language: English

PREFERRED START DATE

Due to the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic, start dates can vary significantly by role. We are adapting rapidly to Covid-19 and most of our team is now working remotely. Given the changing environment, we will appreciate your flexibility in confirming a start date.
